Oman Receives Eurofighter Typhoon

Oman Receives Eurofighter Typhoon. The first Eurofighter Typhoon and BAE Systems Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) for Oman were presented to senior officials of the Sultanate and Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) at Warton Airfield in the UK on 15 May. Oman ordered 12 typhoons and eight Hawk AJTs in December 2012, for delivery since this year. The order was reported unofficially worth around USD 3.24 billion.

"BAE Systems has a long and proud history of work in Oman, which has been built for more than half a century." Today's event represents an additional strengthening of that special relationship, "said Chris Boardman, CEO BAE Systems Military Air & Information. Until RAFO ordered F-16s in 2002, the United Kingdom had been the almost exclusive supplier of military aircraft to the Sultanate, along with substantial training and support.

Typhoons will replace Jaguar attack aircraft that have been in service for nearly 40 years. They will be delivered in the Tranche 3 multitar configuration. BAE Systems is managing the construction of a new air base in Oman, Oman, which houses the RAFO typhoon fleet.

These aircraft for Oman could be the latest typhoons and hawks to be completed and flown at Warton, unless new orders are obtained. Only four of the 72 typhoons ordered by Saudi Arabia are still delivered, and most of the first batch of 22 Hawk AJT ordered by the Saudis have also been delivered. The Saudis have ordered a second batch of 22 AJT Hawk, but their final assembly will be in the Kingdom, BAE recently revealed.

The production of 160 typhoons for the British Air Force of the United Kingdom is about to end. Many of the latest aircraft that have been completed for the RAF have entered storage either at Warton or at two RAF air bases.
